This morning we arose at 5:00 AM to trek on foot 2 miles through the pitch dark woods to a busy arterial and on to the nearest subway station to travel into DC. The subway experience was a bit crazy. First, we couldn’t figure out how to buy the ticket we needed to go where we wanted as you buy them from a machine. Once we had our tickets, we headed up to catch the train.
Arriving at Union Station
Outside looking at the entrance of Union Station.
We couldn’t believe how fast those trains go and the pressure that builds in the ears as you rocket through dark tunnels. We arrived at Union Station in a flash! This station is second only in size to Central Station in New York. It is huge and ornate, with beautiful architecture. We had over an hour before our first tour so we had coffee and walked around acting like tourists taking pictures.
