Lancaster Amish House

Tuesday 8/10/10
We traveled for a day trip to Lancaster PA. Our first stop was the Mennonite Information Center to watch the film “Who are the Amish?” It explained the difference in the religion and the lifestyles of the Mennonite’s vs. the Amish and how every community of Amish are a bit different in their practices as well.

Next we stopped at the Amish Farm House built in 1805 & took a tour of the home with a guide that also told us much about the Amish beliefs and practices. Interesting you can now go visit Target in the backyard. There is a self guided tour of the farm. Lot to see. We were lucky to be there only about 20 minutes after 2 lambs were born. One wasn’t trying to get up and wouldn’t nurse. One of the workers had to milk the ewe and dump the milk into the baby. When we came back from a tour of the countryside, the lamb was doing well.
