Tonight we took a 40 minute drive through beautiful rolling farmland with majestic barns and also through a stretch of dense woods to travel to the Shady Maple Smorgasbord in East Earl, PA. A customer had told us that they had good food. It is a huge buffet and the food was again, excellent with many things that we don’t see in our buffets out west: such as barbecued pork, lima beans in a tomato-type sauce, corn fritters and shoofly pie, just to name a few. Downstairs in the same building is a huge gift shop. Anything you can imagine is sold there. In the back corner of the building is an Amish store selling hand-sewn quilts and hand-quilted wall hangings, place-mats etc, which Ellen drooled over. They were really spectacular. They had many other hand-made items as well. Everything was beautifully done and at a reasonable price.
