Rising early, we left the beautiful place where we boon docked near this lovely lake for the last 3 days.
We retraced our earlier journey going back through Teslin. It sprinkled a bit south of Teslin, but did not detour us from stopping at Rancheria Falls. It is an easy 1/3 mile walk on a boardwalk from the parking lot to the falls.
We stopped at Watson Lake (where on the way up we stayed at Down Town Rv Park) and took advantage of the free dump station and fresh water at beautiful Wye Lake Park. We also filled up with diesel and propane (also expensive). Now we are set for camping for another week.
We also had to stock up on groceries. WOW! The prices of food here are amazing, nearly double what we pay in Seattle for the same items. We’re not sure how people afford to eat or live up here.
After Watson Lake we continued on a portion of the Alaska Hwy we had missed when we came up the Cassier. The forest of mixed birch and white spruce is pleasing to the eye…a wonderful mix of different shades of greens, white and gray.
Historic Mile marker 585 let us know that we are at last leaving the Yukon and will continue our trip in British Columbia. Canada's version of the 4 corners but only with 2. You can see the old highway here. All day we saw where the old highway was left behind as they have straightened it a lot in years past.
The rest of today’s journey moves through Fort Nelson Forest District. There are signs to watch for grizzly and wood bison, but we didn’t see any today.
We were assured by a cyclist that we will probably see lots of bison tomorrow as we head to Liard Hot Springs. We had a great chat with a follow named Doug who started a bicycle ride in Montreal, went down into the states across highway 2 in Montana and is now heading up to Fairbanks to meet his mom for time in Denali and on the Kenai. He’ll then take the ferry down the inland passage and cycle down the coast and over to Arizona for a short rest prior to cycling on down into Mexico and South America. If I remember right he’s going as far as Peru. We exchanged emails so that we can follow his progress on this 18 month bicycle adventure. If you read this blog Doug, we’re rooting for you!
We are staying at a rest stop mile marker 880 (km marker) at an overlook of the Liard River, Allen’s Lookout. Legend has it that a band of outlaws took advantage of this sweeping view of the river to attack and rob riverboats.

After dinner we went for a walk.
Ellen being the daring girl she is wanted to play chicken with the rush hour traffic.
She won as no vehicles have passed in about 20 minutes!
She also wanted to go for an adventure, so we found a hill to go up!That's it for today.........
